Accreditation and Other Professional Bodies in Japan

Accreditation in higher education is an evaluation procedure to determine or reaffirm whether or not a higher education institution or course/program hold a certain standard. The graduate schools, universities, junior colleges, and colleges of technology, all have to go through an evaluation. 
The Accrediting agencies for Higher education Institutions are:

Japan University Accreditation Association (JUAA)

The JUAA formed in 1947, introduced accreditation in 1951. It is a quality assurance and accrediting authority authorized by the Minister of MEXT that aims for qualitative improvement and advancement of Japanese higher education institutions through accrediting activities. It carries out Certified and Evaluation and Accreditation in six fields-Accreditation of Universities, Junior Colleges, Law Schools, Business schools, Public policy schools, Schools of public health, and Intellectual Property Studies.

Japan Institute for Higher Education Evaluation (JIHEE)

The JIHEE established in 2004 and certified by the Ministry of MEXT as a certified Evaluation and Accreditation Authority for Universities, Junior Colleges, and fashion business graduate schools. It aims to improve and raise the quality of higher education institutions in Japan by assessing the educational and research activities performed at these institutions.

National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation (NIAD-UE)

The NIAD-UE contributes to the growth of higher education in Japan by assessing the education, research and other activities of the universities, junior colleges, colleges of technology, and inter-university research institutes.

Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE)

The JABEE, established in 1999, aims to promote education programmes in engineering, science and agriculture departments in higher education institutions. It is involved in the accreditation of education related to technician training organized at Universities in Japan.
