Scholarships for the International Students in Japan

There are several scholarships being offered to students residing overseas who wish to study at Japanese higher education institutions. 
Following are the few scholarships-

Aichi Scholarship Program: This scholarship is offered by Aichi Prefectural Government. Research and Master’s program students who are below 35 years of age are qualified for this scholarship program. Students are selected on the basis of documents submitted.
  • Designated Countries: Asian Countries
  • Monthly Stipend: Living allowance of ¥150,000 per month, Travel expense to Japan, School expenses inclusive of entrance examination and tuition fee.
  • Duration: 2.5 years
  • Application Period: Late March- Mid May

The Iwatani International Scholarships: Offered by The Iwatani naoji foundation. Master’s Students below 30 years of age and Doctoral program students who are below 35 years are qualified for this scholarship. Students are selected on the basis of documents submitted as well as Interview.
  • Designated Countries: East Asia and South East Asia
  • Fields of Study: Natural Sciences
  • Monthly Stipend: ¥150,000 
  • Duration: 1 year
  • Application Period: December 1 -20

INPEX Scholarship: Offered by INPEX Scholarship Foundation. Master’s Students below 30 years of age are qualified for this scholarship. Students must have a GPA 3.0 in order to get the scholarship. Students are selected on the basis of documents submitted. 
  • Designated Countries: Indonesia
  • Fields of Study: Natural Sciences
  • Monthly Stipend: ¥160,000/M, Covers Full tuition, Travel expense for the academic purposes
  • Other Benefits: 6 months of Japanese Language School free
  • Application Period: August 1- November 15

Okinawa Prefecture International Student Program: Provided by Okinawa International Exchange & Human Resources Development Foundation University Japanese Program students, junior college and undergraduate students who are below 35 years of age are qualified for this scholarship. Students are selected on the basis of the documents submitted. 
  • Benefits: Living Allowance of ¥70,000 per month and covers travel Expense, tuition fee, boarding, and Welfare expenses.
  • Duration: 1 year

Kyoritsu Foundation Scholarship: Professional training college, junior college, undergraduate, masters and doctoral program students are qualified for this scholarship. Students are selected on the basis of documents submitted.

Interchange Association: Research, Master’s and Doctoral program students who are below 35 years are qualified for this scholarship. Students are selected for this scholarship on the basis of documents submitted, interview and written exam.
  • Designated Country: Taiwan
  • Application Period: Early Feb- Mid March
  • Benefits: ¥143,000 to ¥148,000 per month. It also cover air ticket and tuition fee.

The Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Fellowship program (Doctoral Candidates): Doctoral students having 35 years or below age are qualified for this scholarship. This scholarship is provided by the Japan Foundation. 
  • Designated Countries: All countries that have diplomatic relations with Japan. Taiwanese applicants, including permanent resident of Taiwan, are eligible to apply
  • Fields of study: Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Duration: 4- 14 months
  • Monthly Stipend: ¥310,000
  • Application Period: Sep-Dec 1

Toka Kyoiku Bunka Koryu Zaidan: Undergraduates, Master and Doctoral students are qualified for the scholarship offered by this foundation. Students are selected on the basis of the documents submitted.
