National Centre Test for University Admissions in Japan

The National Center Test for University Admissions (大学入試センター試験 Daigaku Nyūshi Sentā Shiken)  managed and supervised by the National Centre for University Entrance Examinations, is a standardized test used as a admittance component by public and some private universities in Japan. The National Center for University Entrance Examinations is an Independent Administrative Institution (IAI). The test is held yearly during a weekend in mid-January for two days
In January 2014, 560,672 students took part in the test at 693 testing centers. 

Structure

The National Centre Test for University Admissions is a multiple-choice test that follows the curriculum guidelines set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. 
For each subject area, separate tests are conducted. In total 29 tests are taken in 6 subjects/disciplines. Applicants are required to take the subjects stated by the chosen university. 
The questions are taken from-

Civics: Includes Contemporary social studies, Ethics, Politics and Economy, Ethics, Politics and Economy (倫理、政治・経済)
  • Maximum points: 100 points 
  • Duration: 60 minutes
Geography and History: Includes World History A (世界史A), World History B (世界史B), Japanese History A (日本史A), Japanese History B (日本史B), Geography A (地理A), and Geography B (地理B)
  • Total Points: 100 points each
  • Duration: 60 minutes
Japanese Literature: Includes Japanese literature (国語)-Modern language comprehension, old Japanese and classical Chinese texts.
  • Total:  200 points wherein Modern language comprehension is of 100 points, Old Japanese is of 50 points, and Classical Chinese texts holds 50 points
  • Duration: 80 minutes
Foreign Languages (Written): Includes English(英語), German(ドイツ語), French (フランス語), Chinese (中国語), and Korean (韓国語) languages.
  • Total points: 200 points each
  • Duration: 80 minutes
Foreign Languages (Listening): This test is in English only.
  • Total points: 50 
  • Duration: 60 minutes 
Science (1): Includes Biology I (生物I) an General Science B (理科総合B)
  • Total points: 100 points each
  • Duration: 60 minutes
Mathematics (1): Includes Mathematics I (数学I) and Mathematics I and Mathematics A (数学IA)
  • Total Points: 100 points each
  • Duration: 60 minutes
Mathematics (2): Includes Mathematics II(数学II) and Mathematics II and Mathematics B (数学IIB), Basic industrial mathematics/science (基礎工業数理), Bookkeeping/Accounting (簿記), and Basic information technology (基礎情報科学)
Applicants are required to choose 2 subjects from Mathematics B- sequences, statistics and computers, vectors, and calculation and computers
  • Total Points: 100 points each
  • Duration: 60 minutes
Science (2): Includes Chemistry I (化学I) and General Science A (理科総合A)
  • Total Points: 100 points each
  • Duration: 60 minutes
Science (3): Includes Physics I (物理I) and Earth science I (地学I)
  • Total Points: 100 points each
  • Duration: 60 minutes

Listening Exam and IC Player

Applicants for the English (written) exam have to appear for a listening exam. An IC player is given to all the applicants. Instructions of using it are given by the supervisor. You are required to listen and answer the question based on what you hear.
